Taara project – high-speed Internet transmitted by laser.
Google-owned company X announced that a prototype implementation of a laser communication system has been successfully completed. The Taara project consists in creating a stable Internet network between cities located almost 5 km apart using a laser. The test of the system in Africa lasted 20 days with 700 TB of data transmitted at speeds up to 20 Gbps with 99.9% availability. The network created will be used commercially, since making a cable connection is very expensive at that location. The problem is the Congo River whose rapid current and great depth make it impossible to run a fiber optic cable, and the alternative route is as long as 400 km.the receiver with a diameter of 5 cm
