Elton Musk posted space tweet using a Starlink satellite.

On October 21, 2019, Elton Musk, the founder, CEO and largest shareholder of Tesla and SpaceX, posted the first tweet using internet connection provided by the Starlink constellation of broadband satellites orbiting the Earth.
The constellation of Starlink satellites in the Earth's orbit
On May 23, 2019, the reusable Falcon 9 rocket launched 60 Starlink satellites into orbit around the Earth, from the Air Force Base on Cape Canaveral, Florida. Originally, it was assumed that around 12,000 such satellites placed into orbit would create two Starlink constellations. Recently SpaceX has signaled its intention to place additional 30,000 units. The main goal of the Starlink project is to provide access to broadband Internet worldwide, even where it is currently impossible.
A single Starlink satellite has several broadband antennas and a solar panel to power the spacecraft and its navigation system. To perform orbital maneuvers, it uses a Krypton-powered Hall engine. The satellites have been designed so that after five years, i.e. at the end of their estimated period of work and after replacement for new ones, they will autonomously enter the atmosphere and burn without causing any threat to Earth.

New series of dSCR/Unicable multiswitches.

DIPOL has introduced four new models of multiswitches from the SRM series: SRM-524 R80524, SRM-544 R80544, SRM-564 R80564, and SRM-584 R80584. The programmable dSCR/Unicable multiswitches have 1, 2, 3, or 4 pairs of dSCR/Legacy outputs (depending on the model) and terrestrial path output (DTT). In dSCR mode, the satellite outputs allow for independent operation of up to 32 SAT dSCR receivers/STBs, fed in via two coaxial cables (16+16, default configuration) or via one coaxial cable (32 from one output in Unicable II standard, after reprogramming with the PC102W R80561 programmer) and through a distribution network based on typical passive satellite taps and splitters operating in the 5-2400 MHz frequency range. In Legacy mode, each of the outputs can be used as typical SAT output (like in Universal LNBs or standard (legacy) multiswitches) for connecting a legacy SAT TV receiver).
Single-cable Cascadable dSCR Multiswitch: Terra SRM-580 (class A, active Terr.TV path)
The single-cable dSCR / Unicable mode enables distribution of independent satellite signals (plus DTT)
to up to 32 satellite receivers from each pair, through typical passive satellite splitters.
It means that the SRM-584 R80584 multiswitch can provide signals to up to 128 satellite receivers.
Distinguishing features of Terra dSCR/Unicable multiswitches:
  • Built-in LNB switch for selecting wideband or quatro LNB
  • DISEqC control connector allowing for connecting PC102W R80561 programmer and simultaneous configuration of all outputs
  • Full compatibility with EN50494 standard - Unicable I - 8 UBs (User Bands) from each pair
  • Full compatibility with EN50607 - Unicable II - 32 UBs (User Bands) from each pair
  • AGC system ensures stable 84 dBμV output level in the SAT path and 82 dBμV level in the terrestrial path
  • Possibility of using receivers supporting EN50607 and EN50494 standards in the same subsystem (8 x EN50494 + 24 x EN50607)
  • Power supply diagnostics by means of LEDs located on the device housing

The diagram above shows an example installation based on cascadable single cable dSCR multiswitches with active terrestrial path and AGC function. Theoretically, the system can fed signals to 512 satellite receivers compliant with Unicable II standard. In the presented layout, each of the 32 multiswitch outputs provides a composite signal to one apartment, where it can be split even to 16 outlets.

Cleaning of optical connectors.

The phenomenon of signal attenuation is the basic problem of the transmission of information over long distances. In the case of fiber-optic networks, an additional attenuation can be caused by factors such as inadequate precision of splices or too small bending radius. However, it happens that the attenuation of a link is too high, despite observing the basic rules.
The sometimes forgotten or ignored factor increasing attenuation is a dirty ferrule end face. It may be the main and only reason for the trouble with the transmission of optical signal. But a similar problem can caused by dirty adapters.
DIPOL is now offering two models of automatic ferrule cleaners of renowned Japanese brand NTT. The NANOCLEAN L59161 and L59162 tools designed for cleaning elements of optical connections. The main advantage of this solution is the ability to clean pigtail connectors plugged into the switchboard front panel from the inside of the panel/tray – the tool is pushed into the adapters from the outside, after taking out external connectors. The tool cleans both the end face of the pigtail ferrule and the adapter sleeve. After applying the appropriate tip, the NANOCLEAN tool can be used to clean ferrules in connectors out of adapters.
Automatic Ferrule Cleaner: Neoclean-E3 (SC, FC, ST, E2000)
The NANOCLEAN-E3 L59161 tool allows cleaning connectors with a 2.5 mm ferrule.
For 1.25 mm ferrules, we offer the E1 model ( L59162).
NTT automatic tools ensure high quality and efficiency. After about 750 cleaning cycles the cartridge should be replaced. The tools should be of interest to most fiber optic network installers - in particular those who are required to provide measurement reports after deploying fiber optic systems.

"Powered Device" function in PoE switches.

The ULTIPOWER 352SFP N299707 PoE switch has Powered Device function (PD), which allows it to be powered from another PoE switch. This function is extremely useful in any case where only one twisted pair cable is provided to the spot with several cameras (that are placed e.g. on a pole, together with the PoE switch).

Other useful functions of the PoE switch:
  • Extended mode allows for connecting PoE devices over distances up to 250 m
  • PoE Auto Check function for automatic power restart of a non-responsive device (NOTICE: the function must be switched off for software updates of the connected devices)

How to limit the data retention period in Hikvision monitoring systems?

To follow the guidelines for the protection of personal data, the amount and period of personal data that are recorded should be limited to a reasonable minimum. In video monitoring systems, there is no easy way to estimate the demand for disk space, because the amount of data generated and recorded depends on many factors independent of the recording device, e.g. the character of the scene, light conditions etc.
View of the Advanced window with the "Keep Videos/Pictures for ... Day(s) setting
The best way is to limit the parameter in the menu of the DVR/NVR. All Hikvision DVRs/NVRs have the option of specifying the data retention time in days. This setting (Keep Videos/Pictures for ... Day(s)) defines after how many days the recordings will be deleted. If the value is set to 0, then the files will be stored permanently. The appropriate number of days (0-750) must be set for each channel. The user should take into account the capacity of HDD disk(s) - if the available space ends, the function will not protect the older recordings from overwriting.

Adding tags to the IP Villa door/gate station.

IP Villa door/gate stations have built-in reader supporting MIFARE (13.56 MHz) cards/tags. You can register tags to the door station in three ways:
  • with the master card supplied with the door station,
  • with the iVMS-4200 app (by entering the card number),
  • with the iVMS-4200 app (by initiating reading by the door station).
A window of the iVMS-4200 app - adding cards/tags
To add tags using the master card, begin the loading process by applying the card to the door station reader. Then, one by one apply the new cards or key ring tags. Finally, apply the the master card again to complete the registering process.

Virtual Host function in Hikvision NVRs. PoE standard provides the most convenient way to connect IP cameras to the video monitoring system. It simplifies the installation process (one cable for power and data transmission). The cameras are powered from a PoE switch, which can be an independent device or the component of the NVR. Solutions with a PoE switch or PoE NVR are especially popular in systems with a simple architecture. Cameras are connected on a Plug and Play basis (the NVR directly activates the cameras), and most parameters are set through the NVR. The cameras operate in an internal, isolated network and cannot be accessed directly from the outside... >>>more
