Clean energy source.

Scientists Ian Gates and Jacky Wang from the University of Calgary have developed an economical method for large-scale extraction of H2 hydrogen from oil sands and oil fields. H2 hydrogen can be used to generate electricity as well as to power vehicles. This element is considered an efficient, non-polluting fuel that may replace gasoline and diesel. Hydrogen-powered vehicles, including cars, buses and trains, have been developed for many years. The high costs of the current method of extracting hydrogen from oil lowered the profitability of this technique of powering vehicles. The situation may change radically in the near future.

Petroleum (bituminous) sands are the world's largest oil deposits. The second biggest deposits, just after Saudi Arabia, are in Canada (in the Alberta province), the third in Venezuela (on the Orinoco River). These sands are a dark mixture of sticky bitumen, sand, water and clay with a tar consistency. Due to a high density, it is not possible to use the extraction technology developed for crude oil. Researchers have found that injecting oxygen into the bed raises the temperature and releases H2, which can be separated from other gases using specialized filters. The latest technology for extracting hydrogen from bituminous sands does not release greenhouse gases, leaving carbon dioxide and methane in the ground.
It is estimated that the production of H2 hydrogen in the new technology will cost from 10 to 50 cents per kilogram, which is a fraction of the cost of producing gasoline (about 2 USD per kg).

Surveillance video from IP cameras in antenna systems.

The injection of the video information from IP CCTV cameras into an RF distribution network (a private or shared antenna system) requires application of intermediate devices. - digital HDMI to DVB-T modulators (capable of transmission up to Full HD 1080p@60 Hz). The HDMI signal carrying the video information from one or a number of IP cameras is available at the monitor output of the IP NVR in the IP CCTV system. The signal is converted by the modulator into DVB-T or DVB-C channel. Typical applications require the use of a single-channel modulator, or sometimes multi-channel modulators (up to 4 channels).
With the introduction of the new IP to DVB transmodulator Terra MI520P R81609, the need for an IP NVR has been eliminated. The transmodulator converts IP stream provided in the UDP/RTP protocol (unicast/multicast, SPTS and MPTS), and RTSP/ONVIF streaming from IP cameras, to a DVB format (DVB-T COFDM/DVB-C/J.83B/ISDB-T). The device receives IP stream with bit rate up to 80 Mbps and converts it to two configurable DVB-T COFDM, DVB-C/J.83B/ISDB-T multiplexes, with a maximum bit rate depending on the selected standard. The administrator of the system selects the required channels from the IP stream and creates any two DVB-T/DVB-C/J.83B/ISDB-T multiplexes (MUXes).

Video from the IP security cameras is provided to the N29918 switch and then the total IP stream enters the MI520 R81609 modulator. The output DVB-T signal along with DVB-T broadcasts received by the A2810 antenna is distributed in the antenna system through the R70608 multiswitch. The video from each camera is available in the system as a separate TV channel.

New Signal Fire fusion splicers.

DIPOL offers two new models of fusion splicers from the Signal Fire series. After almost two years of providing the AI-8 model, the manufacturer decided to slightly refresh the range of products and replace this popular and reliable machine with a slightly changed version, AI-8C. In addition, it launched the unique AI-9 model combining the functions of a fusion splicer, optical power meter, and VFL visual fault locator.

Signal Fire AI-8C L5870
Signal Fire AI-9 L5875
Compared to AI-8, both models have a slightly changed design. The charging and power supply system has been redesigned. The manufacturer showed a lot of ingenuity here, locating its main part outside the splicing machine, as the included recharge/USB adapter. This approach guarantees faster and easier service in the event of problems with recharging the battery – it is enough to replace the adapter without having to disassemble the splicer. Despite the fact that previous models did not suffer from frequent failures of this system, such caution of the manufacturer shows its care for continuous improvement of the product.
Another improvement is the increase of the operation time on one battery charge cycle. The battery remained unchanged (7800 mAh capacity - one of the largest in the market), but the declared number of splices that can be made increased by 20% – from 200 to 240. The minimum time of one splicing operation in AI-9 L5875 is only 5 seconds, in the case of the AI-8C L5870 model it is 6 seconds.
The new software of the splicers allows the owner to enable the so-called "intelligent lock". In this mode, the owner has the possibility to limit the use of a splicer - for example when renting it. The following restrictions can be made:
  • the splicer is locked by default; it is necessary to unlock using a pre-defined phone,
  • the splicer is unlocked to perform a certain number of splices - after that it will remain blocked,
  • the splicer is unlocked for a specified time (user defines a range of dates); after that, the splicer will remain blocked.

A unique feature of the AI-9 L5875 model is the built-in the measuring and testing capability. The built-in optical power meter and visual fault locator (VFL) allow, among others, for quick diagnosis of the optical path immediately after splicing a fiber.

Double verification of access rights to recordings.

The monitoring system operator most often has access to the NVR through an account with limited permissions. Usually, it includes the right to view only the current images from cameras, but not to view the archives, which would require to log on to an account with higher privileges.
To occasionally increase the permissions, Hikvision has introduced a double access verification function. If the operator needs to access the recordings, additional credentials (specially created for this purpose) have to be used. With the credentials, he or she gains temporary access to view recordings without a need for switching the account.
The double verification function works both with local and remote access (via a web browser or iVMS-4200 application). The permissions allow for viewing and archiving recordings. This feature is currently available only in Hikvision NVRs of I series, but will also be added to other Hikvision NVRs.

Second generation Hikvision IP video intercom system.

DIPOL has introduced second generation IP Hikvision video intercom system, characterized by aesthetic appearance, high functionality, and wide scalability. The door station has a modular structure which means that its elements can be selected depending on the requirements of the customer (up to 8 modules). It always includes the DS-KD8003-IME1/EU G73652 main module which enables powering of other modules and communication with them. The main module is equipped with a fisheye camera with a resolution of 2 MP, two relays for control of entrance gates, one physical call button with a place for a name tag. The expansion modules include DS-KD-E EM 125 kHz G73660 card reader, DS-KD-M 13.56 MHz Mifare G73662 card reader, DS-KD-IN G73664 indicator, DS-KD-KK 6-button name tag G73666 module,
DS-KD-KP numeric G73668 keypad, and display or blank module.
The indoor stations for control of the system include the 7" touch screen monitors, G74001 (TFT) and G74003 (G74001). The preview of image, control of relay outputs, conversation with the caller at the door station can also be performed with the use of Hik-Connect mobile application. The door station and monitors can be powered with 12 VDC source or with the use of PoE technology (802.3 af).

Worth reading

The easiest way to add a device for viewing surveillance video in a mobile application. A Hikvision device can be added to Hik-Connect or iVMS-4500 app by manual entering its IP address or by scanning its QR code. The QR code can be scanned directly from the housing of the device, or it can be generated by it (in the case of a camera or DVR/NVR). In the latter case, it is visible in the configuration menu. Adding a device in this way simplifies the installation by eliminating the need to manually enter the IP address. >>>more
If devices are already added to the mobile application, you can easily share them with another person. All you need to do, is to go to the Generate QR code tab and select the devices you want to share. The newly generated QR code can be scanned by another smartphone.
