The first 5G implementations in Europe.

In Tampere, Finland and in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, the Elisa mobile operator has officially launched a service of fast, wireless data transmission based on the 5G standard. In both cities, the networks work in the 3.5 GHz band, and according to the operator, the bandwidth for a single user reaches 2.2 Gbps. This is an impressive value, but still far from the maximum possibilities offered by the new generation of wireless networks.

The fifth-generation mobile technology, the successor to the 4G networks, should enable data transmission rates up to 100 Gbps with delays below a few milliseconds. The 5G networks will preserve high data rates regardless of a large number of subscribers using them at the same time.

From June 2020, the European Union wants to allocate for broadband Internet services in the 5G network the 700 MHz band. Interestingly, in Poland (the country where the world's first commercial LTE1800 network with 20 MHz channel was started), a 5G network will shortly be launched as well (in Lodz, with cooperation with Ericsson).

Visitor mode in Hik-Connect.

Version 3.5.0 of the Hik-Connect app introduces the option of using it without registering a user account. After choosing the mode, the application creates a default account. The user can add and connect devices via P2P by scanning their QR codes or entering IP addresses. The Visitor mode enables the user to manage the connected devices and share them with others via the QR codes.

The guest mode gives the user an opportunity to quickly start the preview (without wasting time on registration), but it poses the risk of losing the list of added devices as a result of, for example, a damage to the user's smartphone. The device lists are saved only locally, whereas after logging in to the account they are saved on a remote server. The registration allows easy access to the list on other smartphones, as well as through the application on PCs - iVMS-4200. Hik-Connect enables users to automatically assign local lists to new accounts.

Pay-TV channels in a hotel TV system.

DIPOL offers devices for management and distribution of a required package of satellite TV channels, TDX-420 R81618 and TDX-420C R81619. The devices that distribute satellite channels after converting them into digital DVB-T COFDM platform have become very popular solution in hotels, motels, guesthouses, and other facilities where the owner requires a central management of the TV programming offer, without a need for additional satellite receivers. The satellite channels can be the only or a supplemental part of the TV programming (e.g. along with terrestrial DVB-T channels). The output DVB-T COFDM multiplexes are provided to the TV outlets in rooms with the use of passive distribution networks based on splitters and/or /taps, and RF coaxial cables.

Cost-effective video monitoring with H.265 cameras.

How to send HDMI signal wirelessly?

Signal HD H3641 is an HDMI extender that transmits over Wi-Fi a high definition signal from an HDMI source to a television or monitor located up to 50 meters away. The kit contains transmitter (sender) and receiver units and accessories. The units communicate without using other Wi-Fi networks.

Distinguishing features:

The bit rate of the compressed signal at the output of the transmitter is about 20 Mbps. The output signal can be properly decoded only by the dedicated receivers - it cannot be done by a PC equipped with a Wi-Fi card. The transmitter and receiver units create independent, dedicated wireless link.

Mechanical splicing of optical fibers.

Mechanical splices ULTIMODE FAST-MS1 L5550 are used for permanent connections of optical fibers without the need of employing fusion splicers. Low loss at the level of 0.15-0.2 dB is obtained thanks to advanced positioning of the fiber end faces by V-shaped grooves. An optical gel that is also used in the mechanical splices minimizes the effects of imprecise cuts and possible gaps between the end faces of the optical fibers.

The versatile design of the Ultimode splice allows for splicing optical fibers with buffer coating diameters of 250 μm and 900 μm, providing high performance connections of multimode and single-mode fibers.

The prepared and cleaned ends of the fiber should be carefully inserted into the arm, until encountering some resistance. The lock moved towards the middle will secure the fiber from dropping out. After inserting and locking the fibers on both sides of the mechanical splice, the latch is used to position and secure the fiber ends in the V-grooves. Of course, the "250 grip" is not applicable in the case of fibers with buffer coating diameter of 900 μm.

Contrary to popular and often repeated opinion, mechanical splices, similarly to fusion splices, require precise cleaving of fibers. The theory of filling the imperfections of cleaving operations with gel is true, but ultimately the light reaching the unevenly cleft end faces is refracted at the boundaries of the different materials (fiber-gel). In the case of poorly cut fibers, the result is uncontrolled, which in combination with light reflections at the splice causes a significant increase in the attenuation of the connection.
