Start of 5G!

China, the country with the largest telecommunications market in the world, begins tests and the first practical implementations of 5G technology. The tests of telecommunications equipment will be carried out in nearly 100 cities. 5G networks can theoretically transmit data 20 times faster compared to 4G standard, with lower latency of data packets.
China has the largest number of 4G users in the world. Approximately, 30% of mobile phone users in China get access to the Internet via 4G networks. So, the first testing ground of the 5G standard has been chosen thoughtfully. The maximum download speed in this technology is as high as 20 Gbps (in 4G: 1 Gbps), with delays less than 1 ms (4G: 10 ms). The International Telecommunication Union is planning the official implementation of first commercial 5G networks already in 2020.
ZTE company, one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, along with China Mobile will launch the test 5G networks in about 100 cities located in 20 provinces. In addition, China Unicom and state-owned China Telecom Corporation will also prepare for launching the latest-generation networks in the future.

HDMI with USB via twisted-pair cable!

Signal-HD HDMI to IP converter enables the user to connect remote (up to 100 m) source of HD content to HD-enabled television/monitor, using one CAT5e/6 cable. A great advantage of the set are USB ports that allow for remote control of the source device (a PC, DVR/NVR etc.) with standard input tools such as keyboard or mouse.

Wireless distribution of HDMI signal to mobile devices.

DIPOL has introduced HDMI to IP encoder Signal-433 R86433. This multifunctional device encodes input HDMI signal to IP stream. The encoder has HDMI and USB inputs and IP output (RJ-45). The output can stream three independently configured multimedia streams using UDP (unicast/multicast), RTMP and HLS protocols. The HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) protocol allows for adaptation of the bit rate to the network capabilities and can be used for the wireless transmission of multimedia (including HD) to mobile devices. Thanks to this feature the encoder can be used in networks based on "SOHO" access points, limiting the risk of overloading the processors of the APs.
The IP streaming can be properly decoded by PC computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones running e.g. free VLC application.

Mechanical splices - questions and answers.

Installers beginning their adventure with fiber optics have many questions concerning fiber splicing. As we know, this job not as simple as in the case of copper cables. To dispel doubts about mechanical splices, we decided to answer the most frequently asked questions.
Fiber Optic Mechanical Splice: ULTIMODE FAST-MS1 [5 pcs.]
Mechanical splices ULTIMODE FAST-MS1
L5550
  • What is a mechanical splice? Mechanical splice is a component for joining two separate optical fibers, made with high accuracy allowing for precise and permanent positioning of the prepared fiber ends to minimize signal attenuation.
  • What tools are needed to make a mechanical splice? The installer needs fiber optic stripper L5905, precision fiber cleaver L5801, IPA solvent cleaner L5915, and dust-free Kim-Wipes L5913. Other very useful tools are visual fault locator L5935, optical power meter L5821, optical laser source L5825, fiber scraps trash can L5918 and scissors for cutting Kevlar(R) L5904.
  • What fibers can be to joined using mechanical splices? Mechanical splices can be used for joining single-mode and multimode fibers with buffer or jacket diameter of 250 μm and 900 μm.
  • What is the attenuation of mechanical splices? The attenuation of a properly installed mechanical splice is less than 0.15 dB. Practice shows that skillful installers using mechanical splices are able to achieve attenuation level identical with that of fusion splices. The loss of a splice depends on many factors, but mainly on the accuracy of cleaving the fiber ends and on the manual skills of the installer.
  • Are mechanical splices strong and durable? Mechanical splices are sufficiently strong and durable. However, they should not be exposed to longitudinal forces, therefore they should always be placed in specially designed compartments in installation boxes or distribution frames. Well-protected mechanical splices guarantee durability of the connections.

Documentation of construction process with Hikvision cameras.

Hikvision IP cameras have the ability to sequentially take and record pictures, as well as they can perform such operations in response to some events. The ideal cameras for this purpose are those with microSD interface (F letter in the camera name). In the sequence mode, one can create e.g. the history of the progress of construction of a facility, such as apartment house, school, shop, sports facility etc. This solution enables the user to save a large amount of disk (memory card)/server space, while ensuring that the construction process is well documented. The time interval can range from 1 s to 7 days. Additionally, the schedule can be configured in such a way as to take the pictures during working hours i.e. at certain times of the days of the week, when the construction crew is on the spot, for example from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 - 17:00, with 1-hour interval (see below).

Hikvision - alarm notifications on smartphones.

DVRs/NVRs and IP cameras from Hikvision are equipped with network interfaces that allow for remote configuration and remote viewing of the images. The preview of the images on smartphones is possible using dedicated, free application iVMS-4500. The app supports alarm notifications generated by the monitoring equipment. If the devices and smartphones are configured properly and have access to the Internet, the notifications will be displayed on the screens of the phones. Supported alarm notifications:
  • triggered by motion detection,
  • triggered by intelligent video content analysis (VCA),
  • on tampering with a camera,
  • on video loss.
