WiFi 7 coming soon. Currently, devices equipped with an access point supporting WiFi 6 (802.11ax) are only gaining popularity while the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is already finishing work on the Wi-Fi 7 standard.
Currently, the latest generation of Wi-Fi is Wi-Fi 6, which was launched in 2019. Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), on the other hand, is expected to make its way to Intel laptops and PCs as early as 2024 (Intel is working on obtaining Wi-Fi Alliance certification). The new standard will offer maximum speeds of up to 46 Gbps. Wi-Fi 7 is expected to be a huge leap in performance and stability compared to the previous standard (802.11ax). The increase in channel bandwidth from 160 to 320 MHz, the use of 4096 QAM modulation and the change in signal frequency from 5 to 6 GHz is expected to provide unprecedented speed as well as increase network stability and reliability.
Wi-Fi network development
The IEEE is unwilling to officially unveil the standard until 2025, so Intel has plenty of time to make improvements. Fortunately, Broadcom and Qualcomm are not waiting for the end of 802.11be and are already developing new wireless network adapters for the Wi-Fi 7 launch. Broadcom was the first to show its Wi-Fi 7-compatible chips. The tested four-band access point achieved 10 Gbps speeds for a total of four Wi-Fi 7 clients at 5 GHz. According to Qualcomm, in the initial phase of development, real Wi-Fi 7 speed will be up to 33 Gbps.
DIPOL SMART – choosing a DVB-T2 antenna is no longer an issue! Regardless of the antenna installation place, you should always check the reception possibilities without using amplifiers or preamplifiers. If reception without extra support is sufficient, the problem power supply to the antenna is avoided, and so are the malfunctions and possible overdrive problems that cause unstable reception. An ideal antenna is the one that has high gain, optimal directivity, relatively small size, and will not require additional power supply. However, every installer knows that such a model does not exist. The choice of an antenna is largely a matter of making appropriate compromises.

These antennas have a number of advantages, with the versatility being the most important. The bypass amplifier used in the sealed antenna box makes these antennas capable of operating in two modes:
  • passive – the antenna works with its nominal gain (max. 14 dBi for HORIZON and max. 10 dBi for CITY models),
  • active – after applying 12 VDC through the coaxial cable- from the power supply (not included), multiswitch, amplifier, etc.-, the signal is amplified by additional 20 dB.
So, using these antennas, the installer avoids troublesome replacement of the combiner for preamplifier and testing reception in different configurations. For SMART antennas, testing of various options is performed by switching on and off the power supply of the amplifier. The installer can immediately verify whether additional boosting of signal level is needed in a specific location, and the final signal parameters offered by the antenna.
DVRs: how to distinguish different types of recordings by color? In small monitoring systems, there is usually no shortage of disk space and continuous recording is set. This is a problem when searching for recordings as there is only a continuous green playback bar, making it difficult to find interesting fragments.
This can be dealt with by properly configuring data recording. You should enable the selected function, e.g. motion detection, and activate recording from detection (the recording channel box in the detection configuration is checked) and set the schedule for continuous recording – general (green bar) and from detection – motion (yellow bar). The same can be done for smart events (blue) or alarms (red). Setting up a schedule with support for all events looks as follows:

Additional reader with keypad in Hikvision modular IP video door entry system. Below, a sample diagram of an IP video door entry system based on a modular door station is shown. Mounted on the entrance side, the station consists of DS-KD8003-IME1 G73652 main module, DS-KD-M G73662 Mifare standard card reader, DS-KD-KP G73668 numeric keypad module, as well as surface frame and protective canopy. Opening the wicket from the inside when exiting is possible in several ways. One is to exit using the key or the handle, if it is installed in the wicket. If there is no such option, a local opening button can be installed for the gate station to release the electric strike for a time specified by the installer. The last option used in the diagram is to mount a card reader with a built-in keypad, such as DS-K1104MK G75659, which should be connected to the door station over the RS-485 bus. With such a configuration, if RFID tags or designated opening codes are added to the system, it will be possible to open the gate from both, the entrance and exit sides using the described methods. Opening by codes or tags, is supported only by the modular gate station. In the case of the Villa system, with the installation of an additional reader, only opening by tags will work (codes are not supported). The installation described here uses one DS-KH6320-WTE1 G74001 indoor monitor. However, the entire system can be expanded to the maximum number of monitors supported by the door station.

LTE frequencies. Depending on the needs, LTE networks can support frequencies from 700 MHz to 2.6 GHz (large urban areas). Special mention should be made of the MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technique used in LTE, which allows the signal to be transmitted using multiple antennas.
As mentioned, LTE can operate in a wide range of frequencies. In Europe, the most commonly used frequencies are 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz. In addition, it is important to mention the distribution of bandwidth under 5G 3400-3800 MHz as well as 700 MHz in many European countries.
When choosing an antenna, it is worth buying one that is prepared to work in all bands – so that the router can aggregate multiple bands. One of the recommended antennas is TRANS-DATA KPZ 7/7/7 A741025. It is a MIMO directional antenna designed for outdoor installation. It is dedicated to receiving and transmitting signals from LTE/5G modems. The antenna offers a gain of 6.5 to 7 dBi (depending on the band).

DIPOL SMART CITY DVB-T2 DVB-T2 antenna
DIPOL SMART CITY DVB-T2 A2010 is a directional TV antenna designed to receive digital terrestrial television DVB-T2 in UHF band. The sealed box contains an antenna amplifier with a bypass, which allows the antenna to operate in two modes: passive (antenna gain of 10 dBi), active – activated by 12 VDC (additional gain of 20 dB). The main bar of the antenna is divided into two parts, which makes it possible to shorten it in selected installation scenarios, e.g. when the signal level in the reception area is good, and the antenna is installed on a balcony or in a window.

The AM-346 ALCAD masthead antenna amplifier R903046 has the following inputs: FM+VHF(88-108 MHz+160-260 MHz) and 2xUHF (470-862 MHz). The gain in the FM+VHF bands is 0...20 dB, while in the UHF band, it is 16...32 dB. The AM-346 R903046 amplifier is equipped with 2 On/Off potentiometers allowing to send 24 VDC voltage and 50 mA current to the antenna preamplifier through each of the two UHF inputs.

The HDMI 2.1 H1015 cable allows for 4K, 120 fps (or 8K, 60 fps) video transmission. It has a small diameter (4 mm) and a short bending radius (40 mm).

Termination of 2-4J fiber optic cables. Fiber optic TV/SAT and CCTV systems are mostly based on cables with no more than 4 fibers. As a rule, multifiber buses are not used in such systems, and most point-to-point connections are designed to implement transmissions based on 1 or 2 fibers.

Installers are often faced with the issue of how to terminate 2-4J cables. Usually the overriding criteria are aesthetics and connection security.
