Optical fiber under high pressure. Using computer simulations, scientists from the University of Hokkaido and Pennsylvania State University have proved that data transmission through optical fiber can be significantly improved by using silica glass fibers made under high pressure. According to the simulations, the fibers made with this method have up to 50 percent lower signal loss which significantly increases the distance over which data can be transmitted without signal amplification.
Improvements in silica glass, the most important material for optical communication, have recently been on hold due to the lack of the material understanding at the atomic level. The researchers employed multiple computational methods to predict what will happen to the atomic structure of silica glass under the influence of high temperature and pressure. They discovered large voids between silica atoms which are formed when glass is heated and then cooled (low pressure tempering). When the process occurs at a pressure of 4 gigapascals (GPa), most of the large voids disappear and the glass structure becomes much more uniform.
The voids in the silica glass structure (yellow) causing light scattering and degrading signals become much smaller when the glass is tempered at a higher pressure. The glass undergoes physical transformation, and smaller atom rings are eliminated or "trimmed", allowing the larger ones to be combined more closely. This helps to reduce the average size of the voids that cause light scattering and cuts the signal loss down by more than 50 percent.
Optical fibers made of silica glass have revolutionized long-distance broadband communication around the globe. The material is strong, flexible and very effectively transmits information in the form of light at low cost. However, the light scattering phenomenon that occurs in the optical fiber reduces the length of the transmission path. Using new technology, the scientists are working on the reduction of light scattering (Rayleigh scattering phenomenon) and thus speeding up data transmission and getting closer to quantum communication. They suspect that even greater improvements are possible by increasing the cooling time at a higher pressure. The process can also be investigated for other types of inorganic glass with similar structures. The researchers admit, however, that manufacturing glass fibers at such high pressures on an industrial scale is quite challenging.
Hik-Connect service in 1-subscriber IP Villa 2nd generation gate/door stations. After firmware upgrade to the version 2.1.5 Build 200904, the Hik-Connect service was added to 1-subscriber IP Villa 2nd generation gate/door stations (DS-KV6113-PE1, DS-KV6113-PE1, DS- KV8113-WME1 G73632), allowing the device to be operated via the cloud without the need to install an internal monitor, as it was done before. The firmware is also compatible with 2- and 4-button door/gate stations, but the service is not available for these. The application supports, among other, answering calls, audio-video communication and opening a wicket or entrance gate with built-in relays. After upgrading the devices to this firmware version, it will no longer be possible to share them between different accounts.

Signal Fire – splicing for everyone. DIPOL has been selling Signal Fire fiber optic splicers for 3 years. It is not only the interest of new individual customers that proves the quality and performance of the product, but also installation companies which, due to the high demand for fiber optic networks, buy more devices of this brand. Minimal failure rate and good transmission performance of splices make the currently available models AI-8C L5870 and AI-9 L5875 an excellent choice for businesses operating in the area of CCTV, LAN or FTTH developer systems.
Developer systems are one of the most popular areas of application of Signal Fire splicers. This usually involves making 4 splices per 1 apartment (2 splices in the apartment joint box, 2 splices in the utility room). For a medium-sized building with 50 apartments, the total number of splices may therefore exceed 200.
DIPOL employees know some Signal Fire splicers which have done over ten thousand splices. DIPOL grants a 4-year warranty to Signal Fire splicers from official distribution. The authorized service center in Krakow has qualified staff and a stock of spare parts for all models.
F-type MASTER connectors in SMATV systems F-type connectors are typically used for making connections in antenna systems based on coaxial cables with 75 Ω impedance. They are available in straight and angled versions, and find applications in over-the-air TV, SAT TV, and CATV installations, as well as CCTV systems. Their design and quality have a direct impact on the reliability, stability and performance of the connections, as well as signal loss and impedance matching. Top-quality MASTER compression connectors ensure long-term and reliable operation in even the harshest conditions.
Appropriate design and excellent precision make them easy to install. Their precise thread eliminates problems with screwing the connectors onto sockets, which can happen with other plugs. The compression method of installation on cables provides high mechanical strength, tightness and stability over time. The straight connectors should be compressed with the E80075 universal compression tool, and the angle connectors with the E80078 tool.

Encrypted access to Hikvision devices. When connecting to a CCTV device via a web browser, it is possible to eavesdrop on the transmitted data (e.g. login, password) by a device in the local network. This is the called “man-in-the-middle” attack. This attack can be prevented by securing communication via HTTPS protocol. It complements standard HTTP with functions which increase security thanks to the SSL/TLS protocol.
HTTPS protocol can be activated in the advanced network settings section. The user may create a self-signed certificate, or install a certificate signed by an accredited certification authority.
HTTPS connections must be activated in the network settings. The default communication port is 443. The self-signed certificate can be generated on the device, or the user can install a certificate signed by a certification authority (CA). In the case of the self-signed certificate, the browser will communicate connection through an untrusted site. In turn, the certificate signed by a certification organization is payable.
Low-priced PoE switch from TP-Link. The PoE TL-SF1006P N29929 switch is a device dedicated to home IP monitoring, it supports Power over Ethernet (PoE+802.3af/at). The switch automatically detects PD devices compliant with IEEE 802.3af or IEEE 802.3at standard and supplies them. It also has a priority function to protect the system when overloaded. The power consumption of devices powered by PoE is up to 67 W. Devices connected to ports with a higher priority are powered first.
Key features:
  • 4 PoE ports, data transfer and device supply with a single cable,
  • No installation or configuration required,
  • PoE power up to 30 W for each PoE port
  • PoE power up to 67 W for all PoE ports
  • Support for (PD) PoE devices, operating in the IEEE802.3af/at standard

Integrating Hikvision DVRs/NVRs with SkyHawk HDDs. SkyHawk Health Management (SHM) is the embedded HDD software operated at the local DVR menu level. It monitors HDD parameters and operating conditions (such as temperature, humidity, vibrations) and may recommend a specific action (e.g. a reduction in the temperature or the number of HDDs) if it identifies a risk to HDD health. If the condition of the HDD is compromised, the system will automatically recommend its backup to ensure continued data access... >>>more
