Optical fiber under high pressure. Using computer simulations, scientists from the University of Hokkaido and Pennsylvania State University have proved that data transmission through optical fiber can be significantly improved by using silica glass fibers made under high pressure. According to the simulations, the fibers made with this method have up to 50 percent lower signal loss which significantly increases the distance over which data can be transmitted without signal amplification.
Improvements in silica glass, the most important material for optical communication, have recently been on hold due to the lack of the material understanding at the atomic level. The researchers employed multiple computational methods to predict what will happen to the atomic structure of silica glass under the influence of high temperature and pressure. They discovered large voids between silica atoms which are formed when glass is heated and then cooled (low pressure tempering). When the process occurs at a pressure of 4 gigapascals (GPa), most of the large voids disappear and the glass structure becomes much more uniform.
The voids in the silica glass structure (yellow) causing light scattering and degrading signals become much smaller when the glass is tempered at a higher pressure. The glass undergoes physical transformation, and smaller atom rings are eliminated or "trimmed", allowing the larger ones to be combined more closely. This helps to reduce the average size of the voids that cause light scattering and cuts the signal loss down by more than 50 percent.
Optical fibers made of silica glass have revolutionized long-distance broadband communication around the globe. The material is strong, flexible and very effectively transmits information in the form of light at low cost. However, the light scattering phenomenon that occurs in the optical fiber reduces the length of the transmission path. Using new technology, the scientists are working on the reduction of light scattering (Rayleigh scattering phenomenon) and thus speeding up data transmission and getting closer to quantum communication. They suspect that even greater improvements are possible by increasing the cooling time at a higher pressure. The process can also be investigated for other types of inorganic glass with similar structures. The researchers admit, however, that manufacturing glass fibers at such high pressures on an industrial scale is quite challenging.
Hik-Connect service in 1-subscriber IP Villa 2nd generation gate/door stations. After firmware upgrade to the version 2.1.5 Build 200904, the Hik-Connect service was added to 1-subscriber IP Villa 2nd generation gate/door stations (DS-KV6113-PE1, DS-KV6113-PE1, DS- KV8113-WME1 G73632), allowing the device to be operated via the cloud without the need to install an internal monitor, as it was done before. The firmware is also compatible with 2- and 4-button door/gate stations, but the service is not available for these. The application supports, among other, answering calls, audio-video communication and opening a wicket or entrance gate with built-in relays. After upgrading the devices to this firmware version, it will no longer be possible to share them between different accounts.

F-type MASTER connectors
The MASTER E80075 all-in-one compression tool is especially recommended for quick and precise crimping of a large number of F, IEC or BNC compression connectors.
Encrypted access to Hikvision devices. When connecting to a CCTV device via a web browser, it is possible to eavesdrop on the transmitted data (e.g. login, password) by a device in the local network. The self-signed certificate can be generated on the device, or the user can install a certificate signed by a certification authority (CA). In the case of the self-signed certificate, the browser will communicate connection through an untrusted site. In turn, the certificate signed by a certification organization is payable.
