Selecting Wi-Fi equipment will now be simple. When purchasing a WiFi router, the user must read the router's specification in detail to find out what standard it supports and to check if the standard is the latest, providing the fastest connections. Wi-Fi networks have been present for nearly 20 years, and the naming of standards for the average user is still complicated - the terms 802.11a/b/g/n/ac are not very informative for a typical user.
So far, Wi-Fi versions have been identified by a letter or two letters that referred to the wireless standard. The latest version has the designation 802.11ac, the earlier are 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11a and 802.11b. The Wi-Fi Alliance (an association of over 300 companies, including hardware and software manufacturers, dealing in the promotion and compatibility of subsequent versions of Wi-Fi equipment) has changed the labeling system.
The existing wireless network standards have been numbered consecutively:
  • Wi-Fi 1 (802.11b),
  • Wi-Fi 2 (802.11a),
  • Wi-Fi 3 (802.11g),
  • Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n),
  • Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac),
  • Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).
Now, instead of wondering if the "ac" standard is better than the "n" standard, it is enough to check the number and choose the highest one. The main benefit is the possibility to quickly select the "fastest" device among many others on the shelf.

DVB-T television and the Internet via one UTP cable. Low-voltage systems in office buildings often do not include TV antenna cables, but are usually fitted with structural cabling based on UTP cables. When some users want to connect televisions to watch DVB-T broadcasts, the lack of an RF distribution system may be a major obstacle (in many locations TV signals cannot be properly received using indoor antennas).

A unique solution to this problem is to use SIGNAL TV-LAN baluns for TV over UTP, R94200. The pair of the passive baluns can transmit analog/digital RF signals from an antenna placed in a suitable place via the existing UTP cable. The transmission is performed in parallel to the "normal" use of the cable for data transmission (LAN, Internet). The idea of using the Signal TV-LAN baluns is presented in the figure below.

Transmission of DVB-T and Ethernet signals over a single UTP cable with the use of R94200 baluns
Although the solution is based on point-to-point connection, it is possible to use multiple transmitter-receiver kits, even in combination with TV splitters and network switches. When the RF signal level after splitting is sufficient for further distribution, the signal can be sent over another UTP cable segment after a network switch, using TV splitter and additional pair of the baluns.

Solutions based on the baluns are much more economical in comparison with deployment of additional systems based on coaxial cables or IPTV technology (the latter also requires extra network resources). They do not convert the original RF signals, only change the transmission medium.
Control of Hikvision IP cameras and NVRs via any web browser. Hikvision IP cameras from EasyIP 2.0 plus, EasyIP 3.0 series and NVRs from I series can be upgraded with firmware allowing for access to the IP CCTV resources via any web browser, without using the WebComponents plugin. The firmware allows for using the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox, which do not support NPAPI (Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface). The functionality is available after upgrading cameras to the firmware version 5.5.61 or higher and NVRs to the version 4.1.50 or higher.

Parking function in rotary/PTZ cameras. Rotary cameras are usually configured so that they automatically move along a specific route. The operator can define the pace of the movement, stopping points and periods along with zoom values (presets). Any moment the operator can switch to manual control. After such manual intervention, the operator can choose any automatic mode, but without any choice, some cameras turn on parking function (available in n-cam-870 camera and Hikvision rotary cameras, e.g. DS-2AE4225TI-D M75931, DS-2DE4225IW-DE K17912, DS-2DE7220IW-AE K1797).

The parking function ensures that after a prest period of inactivity the camera will perform a specific action. This may be a patrol, scanning or route, chosen from among previously pre-programmed actions. For example, the HD-TVI PTZ Hikvision M75931 camera has a "PARK TIME" inactivity period configurable from 5 to 720 seconds. To determine the action, the operator must configure the "PARK ACT" parameter, by selecting one of the available options: presets from 1 to 8, patterns from 1 to 5, patrols from 1 to 10, horizontal scan, vertical scan, panoramic scan, day mode, night mode. The parking function will not be activated after triggering a special camera preset, or during actions related to an external alarm event.
Twisted-pair cables - nomenclature. Twisted-pair (balanced) cables are used to transmit signals in telecommunication systems and computer networks. Currently they are mainly used in analog telephony and Ethernet networks. Twisted-pair cables may consist of one or more pairs. The twisting strongly reduces the influence of external electromagnetic interference and mutual interference between the pairs, called crosstalk.

  • U – unshielded

LAN in two buildings located at a distance of 200 m. The best way to create one LAN network in two buildings located at a distance of 200 meters is the application of fiber optic cable. The use of twisted pair cable over such a distance would not comply with applicable standards and would result in a significant reduction of the throughput of the LAN.
In a situation where the buildings are already equipped with switches without SFP slots, the best and universal solution is the use of optical media converters. In each building the suitable media converter is connected via a UTP patch cord to one of the ports of the switch and changes the electrical signals into optical form and vice versa. Choosing the media converters, the user should consider the following parameters:
  • data transfer rate - there are 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps models,
  • fiber type - designed for multimode or single-mode fibers,
  • maximum transmission distance - we offer models with range of 550 m, 2000 m, 15 km or 20 km,
  • communication method - there are models operating with two fibers or with one fiber (WDM).

IP PTZ Camera: Hikvision DS-2DE4225IW-DE K17912 has been equipped with high quality 2 MP (1920x1080) image sensor operating at 25 fps. The camera provides three independently configured data streams and can use several video compression methods: H.265+/H.265/H.264+/H.264/MJPEG.
