A Holy Grail of physics! Scientists from Harvard University claim that they have obtained a sample of solid metallic hydrogen. The importance of the achievement can be underlined by the fact that the search for hydrogen in this state has been lasting for over 80 years! In standard conditions, in contrast to other elements of the first group, hydrogen is not a metal but a gas.
A hydrogen sample was squeezed at ultra-cold temperatures between two flat-tipped diamonds, under pressure amounting to 495 GPa. Such solid metallic hydrogen is thought to be a superconductor, able to conduct electric current without any resistance. Importantly, if the solid hydrogen is meta-stable (which means that after forming it under high pressure its state does not change after returning to normal conditions), the superconducting properties should also be retained at room temperature.

The "new" state of the element has the potential to revolutionize everything, from electric power grid to high-speed computers, as well as can be a unique rocket fuel accelerating the implementation of plans of space exploration. Such fuel would probably be four times more efficient than the currently available rocket propellants. Hydrogen in this form could also play a vital role in the life of every human being, e.g. facilitating magnetic levitation in high-speed trains, improving performance of electric cars etc.
Multiswitch SMATV system in Krakow. CEL company has installed a multiswitch SMATV system for 75 subscribers, the occupants of a housing development in Krakow. The antenna system distributes satellite channels from two satellite positions (Hotbird 13.0E and Astra 19.2E), DVB-T broadcasts, FM and DAB radio stations. The whole system has been based on TERRA solutions and equipment.
The distribution system includes amplifier for 9-input multiswitches, Terra SA-901 R70901, which also supplies power to all active components of the system. The 9-cable bus is split into the staircase subnetworks with the use of SS-9XX taps providing signals to MV-9xx multiswitches with suitable number of outputs. Before injecting into the multiswitch system, terrestrial TV and radio signals are amplified and equalized by the Telmor WWK-951 R89861 amplifier. Thanks to power supply from the remote Terra SA-901 R70901 amplifier, there was no need for connections to AC power network in the locations of the multiswitches.

The wiring has been made of Triset-113 cables - the E1017 gel-filled cable with black PE coating has been laid outdoors, and the E1015 white cable with PVC sheath has been deployed inside the buildings. High reliability of the system is also achieved by the application of professional MASTER E80342 compression connectors.

IP signal coming from the transmitter may be applied to an Ethernet switch to split it among multiple receivers. The bit rate of the compressed signal at the output of the transmitter is about 30 Mbps. In the example below, one needs to buy two additional H3607 receivers.

The devices connected on two sides of an optical path allow for the measurement of its attenuation (the output power level of the source is precisely known, the meter measures the actual level at the end of the link). In the case of an irregularity, the installer can then measure the attenuation of any part or component of the link, e.g. of patchcords.
The need for the measurements is particularly essential in situations where the cabling is to be used, for example, by independent service providers in the future. Depending on the type of the service, the attenuation of optical paths can be critical for the implementation of e.g. a PON providing TV programming and access to the Internet.
Dynamic IP address and access to CCTV devices. Hikvision has introduced a new platform, Hik-connect. The platform is based on cloud computing and supports DDNS service. DDNS (Dynamic DNS) is a service that assigns a fixed domain name to the dynamically changing IP addresses. This feature is very useful when the ISP does not provide users with fixed IP addresses. The necessary condition for using DDNS is to have a public IP address and provide access from the external network to the appropriate ports of the DVR/NVR (server and http, by default 8000 and 80). The next step is to link the device with the Hik-connect account. For this purpose the user has to enter the serial number of the device and verification code.

The device is linked to the Hik-connect account on a permanent basis. The user can access it via a web browser, iVMS-4200 and iVMS-4500 applications. To get access via the browser, the user has to log in to his/her account.
An application of ROPAM wireless control kit. The RF-4-2K G7060 kit can be used to control an alarm system, gates, ramps, etc. using key fobs. The controller has two relay and two OC outputs. The relay outputs can, for example, control two gates, whereas the two OC outputs can be used for other purposes.
